[open] seven am the usual morning lineup
Who: Sora & YOU
When: The month of November
Where: Where these quests happen
What: A catch-all for the month of November! Quests and open prompts inside!
Warnings: Tba
[A: Quest: under new management]
[Sora is a new employee of the recently established Harbor District orphanage so he regularly helps with rounding up rowdy children, helping with meal prepping any other kinds of tasks needed around the orphanage. He is more than eager to try and coax other people to join in as volunteers too. Helping the kids cheer up, doing some crafts or face painting with them or even just sharing stories to help lift their spirits is always, whole-heartedly, welcomed.
On this balmy Autumn day, Sora can be found in the harbour area with a few of the orphaned children working on some papercrafts on the boardwalk. One of the children happens to be rowdier than the others. A small, orphaned chimera child that has quite a sharp set of teeth and a long lion-like tail. The child hops up to his feet and starts to run amok and Sora only has a few seconds to jump up to his feet to try and gather him up.]
Hey- Wait, you gotta stay with the group today, okay!
[But the chimera child decides he doesn’t want to listen today. His teeth are growing every day so he’s irritable and teething on anything he can get his mouth on. That might happen to be you as the chimera boy makes a beeline straight for you! Watch out! He might bite! Sora will attempt to scoop the boy up into his arms if the child doesn’t get to you first!]
Ahh--!! Watch out! Sorry!!
[These kids are all good and adorable, please don’t be too mad!]
[B: Quest: veggies tales]
[Planting vegetables in the community garden is a task Sora is more than acquainted to. As a puca Sora’s appetite for anything green and freshly grown can be quite voracious. Since turning into a monster Sora’s stomach has become almost completely vegetarian because of his new rabbit-like behaviours so working in the garden is more like a labour of love too.
He’s hunkered down in the gardens that day working on planting some fresh cauliflower bulbs with a carefree tune on his lips. His rabbit ears twitch once he finishes another patch with a pat of his hand. But after a moment he seems to frown as he sees the ground start to wiggle.]
Huh? What the-!
[And just like that a small cat head pops out of the ground and lets out a tiny meow. Its leaf-like ears flicker and it starts to try to wiggle out of the ground. The kitten looks like it is half-plant and half-feline! It has green and white splotches with a matching leafy mane around its neck.]
Did you just grow out of the ground?!
[This cauliflower-shaped cat might be in for some trouble! Or will it be giving its own trouble?!]
[C: Quest: shawl about love]
[There happens to be a task to help someone in love find their one true love. Truth be told Sora is a big romantic at heart so he couldn’t really pass up the idea of helping someone find their one true love. This task requires Sora to offer a shawl to various different people in order to see if they happen to be the one. Sora has a gray but magical piece of cloth that will turn blue if they wear it and happen to be that one destined person.
Sora hops up to anyone who might seem willing with a friendly smile and a curious twitch of his long brown-furred rabbit ears.]
Hey there! I’m trying to help someone out, could you try to see if this charm works on you?
[He’s asking around for anyone to give the shawl a try! Maybe you’ll find true love today!]
[D: Quest: a watery pit]
[There have been missing reports of a merrow gone missing with all leads connecting back to River Temese. Sora decides to help out with the search in order to find the missing merrow. He’s not an aquatic type monster but he’s more than capable of swimming and holding his breath so he feels like he should help out.
Near the river Sora sniffs at the air for any traces of lingering monster scents or witch signatures that might give him a clue.]
That’s weird... I think I can smell something different but it all ends right here at the riverbank.
[He’d be more than willing to team up with anyone to help find the missing merrow somewhere nearby. And discover the reason why the merrow went missing in the first place.]
[E: wildcard]

Hmm... Are you sure?
[He reaches out to tug on the fabric gently. Tug tug tug.]
Have you ever been in love before?
[Sora, you shouldn't ask strangers that!]
no subject
What an impertinent question.
[While it is certainly an admonishment, there's no real heat to it. This boy probably had no idea at all what he was asking!]
... But if I must answer, yes. Long, long ago. And unlikely to again, for I will have no other and death stands between us. Is that what this charm is for? Detecting love?
[No wonder it did nothing! Time had long since drowned out that emotion. He might not even be capable anymore.]
no subject
But he quickly focuses back on the man with a bit of a defeated expression. What a big yikes. He didn't mean to bring up such a sad little tidbit. His one true love is dead?!]
Oh... I'm really sorry. I didn't know. Yeah, this shawl is for detecting if someone is in love so I guess...
[Well, that's mostly the correct thing about it.]
Anyway-! What was being in love like for you?
no subject
No apologies necessary. I was not truly forced to answer.
[It was long ago, and Lahabrea has long since determined the best way to deal with pain and loss and grief is to COMPLETELY IGNORE IT. So far, so good!]
Surely there are others here whom are in love. I am certain you will find someone to ensnare in your Charm sooner or later, do not surrender so.
[It's. Almost. encouraging. Almost.]
...Ah, the standard, I imagine. Most of one's thoughts occupied not by duty but by another person. What might please them, what might inspire them. The little thrills of apprehension and eagerness to be done with matters so it might be better spent somewhere else, with that precious one. ... If you wonder if you might know it when you find it, child, I'll dare say you'll know. When you like awake at night because suddenly your dreams aren't as full of joy as the waking reality..
[Well maybe not; but he doesn't know Sora's particular ... everything.
On the dubious bright side it's certain now he's not even remotely connected to a certain other group of menacing black robed people.]
no subject
Sora's cheeks turn pink just a little as he does think of someone who might make him feel things like that.]
I think I get some of those things. [Sora's smile returns quickly.] Love make you think of the other person all the time that that's the only place you wanna be, right?
[Sora thinks it's a little sad that this man has lost that.]
It was probably nice to feel that way even if it was a long time ago?
no subject
[Ordinarily Lahabrea wouldn't tolerate this ongoing mindless chatter, he'd usually have better things to do.
Children ... inevitably get more leeway. This one by his estimate wouldn't be a child that much longer, but clearly that innocent insatiable curiosity remains intact.
Unfortunate it was wasted on a mortal.]
It ... was certainly a memorable time. Mayhap one day I will feel it again. Souls have a way of finding each other over the eons. Now..
[Before he forgets..]
You may be tempted to give that Charmed item to that one which you think of when you think of love, but I would suggest... keeping the mystery. You only have a few decades, it might as well be as exciting as possible, don't you think?
no subject
You really think so? I should save it?
[But finding that One Person is so exciting in on its own Sora isn't sure if he can keep the suspense to himself without trying to find some sort of spoiler out there. But he seems to really be considering it.]
Maybe you're right, it might be fun just to let love do the finding.
[But in that case... Sora takes the shawl and offers it out to the mysterious man to take.]
Then why don't you keep the shawl? If your lost love's soul is out there somewhere maybe this can help you find it again someday!
[Oh, how romantically optimistic.]
no subject
You would give away something so potentially precious to a complete stranger?
[He sounds bemused, not scolding, as if this generosity is outright unexpected. Not particularly useful! But certainly unusual for mortal-kind.]
... Nay. There is likely another better suited! I, for my part.. I am certain I will know, should I cross paths with that one again. Once a soul chains itself to another.. the bindings are not so easily broken by distance or death. The 'bonds' this world offers pale in comparison to a true connection. Even your kind experience thus, life after life, drawn back together as surely as wolves to their pack. Do they not?
[Now, Lahabrea's not entirely certain if mortals worked that way, but it seemed to him that like should still attract like, even if the shell being worn had changed.]
But mayhap you have a companion who is struggling with such a thing and might find your Charm useful, or might be interested in simply playing with it.
no subject
I guess you're right. I'll save it for something or someone special.
[He bounces on his heels a bit in a very rabbit-like fashion once again.]
What's your name, anyway? You talk a lot like an old wizard I know back home.
[That's a compliment!]
no subject
I am Lahabrea.
[Which is .. NOT his name, nobody ever, ever was allowed to have that, it was far too personal to simply hand off to strangers - but the title served just as well in place of one!]
... Though it seems this place has seen fit to take that from me, not long ago I was a wizard myself.. but I am not sure I qualify yet for 'old'.
[He seems amused by the idea.]
And by what are you called?
no subject
Sorry, you don't look old, I swear!
[He gives a quick thumbs up.]
And I'm Sora! I'm a monster here but I know what it's like to lose all your magic too. I had a ton of magic back home but now all I've got is my monster magic. And I guess these claws and ears too.
no subject
... No. Better to keep things as they are.]
How reassuring.
[Not that the mask and robes don't hide nearly everything, which is exactly how it should be.]
There is ... something to be said for retaining even a vestige of one's previous power. For some, to lose their magic is to lose a fundamental part of themselves, and the change to a beast a paltry comfort. But it seems you mind it not terribly, yourself.
[And this particular puca seemed far more tolerable than the PREVIOUS one, so perhaps being an obnoxious chore wasn't a species-wide trait. He'll have to re-evaluate.]
Or at the least, you have come to terms with it.
no subject
[Sora scratches his cheek gently with one clawed finger.]
Maybe it's because I'm kind of used to it too. This isn't the first time I've lost my power and had to start from scratch?
[And it probably won't be the last time either.]
I've been to a few worlds where it's happened to me. So I guess I have come to terms with it! Haha!
no subject
[That draws a frown. How disturbing, that traveling to different locations might strip one of their natural gifts. Perhaps Aefenglom wasn't unique in that respect after all; he'd have to remember that. Any travel would have to be done.. carefully, else risk stranding.]
How many worlds have you visited? Do all of them strip you of your power thusly?
[Something in the Ascian's voice suggests he finds this thought INCREDIBLY unsettling.]
no subject
Not all of them, nope! I've been to a dozen worlds or something but it's only been a few times I've had to start over.
[He's been to more than a dozen worlds but Sora kind of loses count sometimes because he's been around the galaxy so many times.]
It's mostly because I always had something new I had to learn anyway. But it's not that bad! I learn quick! I guess if you've learned something once it's easy to pick it up all over again, right?
[Like riding a bike! Or something like that.]
no subject
[He's going to have to be a little more careful with his line of questioning, if Sora's decided reassurance is the way to go - either for himself, or for Lahabrea. Regaining one's power was not necessarily easy ... or pleasant..
At least not for one with eons behind it. Things might be easier for the very young.]
I have not ... lost anything so important and then had to relearn it again, so the learning curve is unknown to me. I would prefer to avoid it, however, as it takes significant power to get to another world.. being stranded there would not be welcome. ...Much like here, in fact.
[Which he also didn't much like! But more importantly, OTHER worlds..]
no subject
If I'm being honest it was usually because something took my powers and stuff from me. Mostly this group of weirdos that wanted to shroud everything in darkness in those worlds...
[Actually Sora is now poking the man in the sleeve... It was guys in robes just like this!]
But you know what! Relearning everything isn't so bad! If you need help I could always try to help you! If it's magic the coven has a lot of great classes! Or I know some witches who could help out too!
[Althought that's not really what this guy wants, is it? Sora's just being kind!]
Lahabrea's rambly when he gets going.
Hm. I see. [A group of weirdos who want to spread darkness, is it??] While that does sound ... rather familiar, for we too seek to expand the reach of darkness ... I cannot say such was done by my kind, for doing such a thing to children would be shameful, even if you were, say, a particularly dangerous young mortal.
[That's still ... rather ominous. How many groups of black clad hooded creepy people can there be out there, stumping for darkness???
At least two, apparently.]
Once free of this place, and matters tended to from the star I originate, I have great interest in seeing the lands and peoples life has in its infinite possibility conjured up. But if there is risk of it barring me from ever returning home..
[He spreads his hands briefly in an almost helpless gesture, as if this might somehow explain better to Sora what he means. Those gloves have wicked metal claws. what is WITH people wearing spooky outfits anyway!?]
To know it was individuals and not the stars themselves is of some comfort, and woe to those who seek to bar my path. But there is naught for me to regain here, that the Coven could hope to achieve.
[He reaches up one of his own voluminous sleeves, giving a brief sharp tug - and coming back out with a gold-edged crimson feather. The borders shine in the light as if they were true metal.]
For you see, this star has chosen to remove my power, and render this fate unto me. Much like yourself, it seems, but less.. rabbit, and mayhap more bird.
It's really like talking to a KH Big Bad LMAO
[Well that is a whole lot of stuff the man said and Sora's eyes are a bit wide as he puts two and two together. Don't mind as he puts his two cents in on this as a video game protagonist.]
Travelling and seeing new worlds is great and all but that doesn't mean you should shroud them in darkness, okay? A balance is better than one full of darkness or one full of light! You need both!
[Sora tugs on the man's robe with a bit of a huff. Those certainly are feathers he sees.]
But great on you for not picking on kids. There's some worlds out there that will defend themselves as hard as they can either way! [...!] And a lot of them will change you just like this one changed us. So for now I guess we are a couple of rabbits and birds.
[He sighs...!!!]
Just as much speechmaking, grandiose bullshit and pure noise.
[For a moment, Lahabrea seems terribly confused, as if Sora had said something so painfully obvious that somehow he must have said something wrong. But what??]
Mistake me not, child. I certainly side with the night in all its magnificence and power, but not foolishly. A preponderance of darkness is as dangerous as a flood of light, and both are to be avoided at all costs, else risk the very variety of life I am interested in seeing.
[It's true ... more or less, from a distinctly Ascian perspective. The things Sora has contended with, with Darkness enveloping and destroying entire worlds - Lahabrea might well understand a little, but his devotion to the dark and the God that ruled it was at least in favor of continued existence.
The idea of annihilating it all was a bit numbing honestly.]
It is good, and proper, that a star might defend itself to maintain the way it is meant to be and not what others would force it to become! Though this one I feel is NOT defending itself.
[It feels more like the world is a BRAT and just wants to be annoying.]
no subject
Phew, for a second there I thought you might be just like them. Sorry, I got a little ahead of myself for a second!
[But then he addresses the second part with a bit of a gentle laugh, hopping on the balls of his feet.]
And okay, I know! Turning into a monster is really weird! But in the end, you might learn some pretty great things. You've got feathers, right? What kind of monster are you turning into? A harpy?
[Correct him if he's wrong!]
no subject
[The Organization was bad enough, involving Ascians simply wouldn't be good for anyone.
But the puca's wariness given those same people apparently clipped his metaphorical wings multiple times is perfectly sensible. More sensible than he's used to with most mortals in fact.]
I believe a harpy, yes.
[Lahabrea is mistaken, as he frequently is.]
Or a chimera mayhap, there are few things to become with feathers. By the colors, I may take after one of mine own creations, and spend my time here as kin to phoenixes, but I must wait to be certain. It .. takes some time to gain defining traits, does it not..?
[.. Obligated to ask a kid of all things, but Sora seemed rather familiar with the process!]
no subject
Are you saying you might be a phoenix?! That's so cool!
[Ah yes, asking the kid about monster things. Luckily Sora is actually very well versed in these things seeing as he's live in this magical city for almost a year now. He's fully changed into a puca and his bondmates are very smart about all things so he wasn't short of education along the way.]
But yeah-! It can take a few months for monster changed to happen! I think about half a year does it all but it's different for everyone. Just be careful about the growing pains. But you know what? I know harpies have great singing voices too. Do you like singing?
[He's not saying that to sound silly! A harpy's voice is actually very powerful!]
no subject
And Sora has been here a while, that much is obvious.]
I'll find out in time, but it seems so.
[He recognizes some of his own work! Better than taking up as a fish or serpent, neither of which he had much dealing with.. but it left him wondering if he'd have a firebird's OTHER skills, such as healing. He'd have to wait.[
...Heh.
[Lahabrea's voice isn't exactly pleasant to the ear, and hasn't been for quite a while.]
I think, should I trend in the path of the birdfolk, that I will be like more unto crows than songbirds. I don't think I could produce a song worth listening to these days.
no subject
Alright! Still, I think harpies are pretty cool. If you get to learn how to fly that's even cooler.
[Gosh, he misses flying already.]
