[A: Quest: under new management]

[Sora is a new employee of the recently established Harbor District orphanage so he regularly helps with rounding up rowdy children, helping with meal prepping any other kinds of tasks needed around the orphanage. He is more than eager to try and coax other people to join in as volunteers too. Helping the kids cheer up, doing some crafts or face painting with them or even just sharing stories to help lift their spirits is always, whole-heartedly, welcomed.

On this balmy Autumn day, Sora can be found in the harbour area with a few of the orphaned children working on some papercrafts on the boardwalk. One of the children happens to be rowdier than the others. A small, orphaned chimera child that has quite a sharp set of teeth and a long lion-like tail. The child hops up to his feet and starts to run amok and Sora only has a few seconds to jump up to his feet to try and gather him up.]

Hey- Wait, you gotta stay with the group today, okay!

[But the chimera child decides he doesn’t want to listen today. His teeth are growing every day so he’s irritable and teething on anything he can get his mouth on. That might happen to be you as the chimera boy makes a beeline straight for you! Watch out! He might bite! Sora will attempt to scoop the boy up into his arms if the child doesn’t get to you first!]

Ahh--!! Watch out! Sorry!!

[These kids are all good and adorable, please don’t be too mad!]

[B: Quest: veggies tales]

[Planting vegetables in the community garden is a task Sora is more than acquainted to. As a puca Sora’s appetite for anything green and freshly grown can be quite voracious. Since turning into a monster Sora’s stomach has become almost completely vegetarian because of his new rabbit-like behaviours so working in the garden is more like a labour of love too.

He’s hunkered down in the gardens that day working on planting some fresh cauliflower bulbs with a carefree tune on his lips. His rabbit ears twitch once he finishes another patch with a pat of his hand. But after a moment he seems to frown as he sees the ground start to wiggle.]

Huh? What the-!

[And just like that a small cat head pops out of the ground and lets out a tiny meow. Its leaf-like ears flicker and it starts to try to wiggle out of the ground. The kitten looks like it is half-plant and half-feline! It has green and white splotches with a matching leafy mane around its neck.]

Did you just grow out of the ground?!

[This cauliflower-shaped cat might be in for some trouble! Or will it be giving its own trouble?!]

[C: Quest: shawl about love]

[There happens to be a task to help someone in love find their one true love. Truth be told Sora is a big romantic at heart so he couldn’t really pass up the idea of helping someone find their one true love. This task requires Sora to offer a shawl to various different people in order to see if they happen to be the one. Sora has a gray but magical piece of cloth that will turn blue if they wear it and happen to be that one destined person.

Sora hops up to anyone who might seem willing with a friendly smile and a curious twitch of his long brown-furred rabbit ears.]

Hey there! I’m trying to help someone out, could you try to see if this charm works on you?

[He’s asking around for anyone to give the shawl a try! Maybe you’ll find true love today!]

[D: Quest: a watery pit]

[There have been missing reports of a merrow gone missing with all leads connecting back to River Temese. Sora decides to help out with the search in order to find the missing merrow. He’s not an aquatic type monster but he’s more than capable of swimming and holding his breath so he feels like he should help out.

Near the river Sora sniffs at the air for any traces of lingering monster scents or witch signatures that might give him a clue.]

That’s weird... I think I can smell something different but it all ends right here at the riverbank.

[He’d be more than willing to team up with anyone to help find the missing merrow somewhere nearby. And discover the reason why the merrow went missing in the first place.]

[The kid seems absolutely delighted at the fact that he's allowed to stick things to someone with glue and crafts so he goes right ahead and starts to decorate Styx' entire pantleg with glue and colorful cut out stars. He'll have the best galaxy pants in Aefenglom in a minute, here.

Meanwhile, Sora seems to blink at Styx' description and lets out a puff of laughter.]

Huh? Demons in with santa hats on? Do demons celebrate Christmas?

[Demons????]

[it's kind of sad, but this is probably the most flamboyantly Styx has ever dressed off the stage in his daily life. embellish to your heart's content, kid; he'll even bring his massive leg up to rest on the bench so he's got more room to decorate.]

Well they gotta, right? 's a religious thing, 'nd they used to be angels and all.

[When that entire leg is offered as an art canvas the kids seem to giggle and clamour around to join in! Now there's like five kids starting to glue things to the man's leg! He can't help it, Sora bursts into laughter as the conversation gets interrupted.]

Ahahah-!! Wow, they really love you! You're a good big brother letting them do all that.

[Sora wipes an amused tear from his eye and then continues,]

But huh you're right about that! Demons and angels are kinda the same thing? And then again I do have a skeleton friend who loves Christmas too. I guess everyone has some Christmas spirit!

[the kids' enthusiasm warms Styx's heart to the point of laughter, although when he hears a decidedly more mature voice joining in with him the tips of his ears inevitably turn red.]

Dunno about that, haha! Don't got any brothers or sisters or nothing at home...just figured 's no harm, yeah? Be nicer if everybody had some fun.

[and if his clothes ended up looking a little more stylish until the glue dried out, that was just a bonus. it'd be a fun memory of a happy day out for everybody that way.]

...guess 's the same way with Christmas. Everybody wants to have a nice time if they can, I think.

[It's a good day for all of this. Spending some time with some kids who don't have anyone else and being able to make a difference or to make them laugh or smile. It's enough for Sora and he likes to be able to be a part of that help. Making a difference and helping these kids is important.]

Yeah, but I think that's why you'd make a good big brother. You know how to do it.

[He grins some more and then nods as he goes back to making his Christmas cards. He's using a lot of red glitters right now.]

Do you think Christmas is going to be a big thing in Aefenglom? This is my first winter here so I hope so.

[he knows how to do it? that makes Styx's embarrassed flush spread, creeping down his ears and onto his cheeks. if the drummer knows anything about how to be an older brother, it's something that he'd subconsciously picked up from Ymir...although he's positive his friend would be pretty goddamn peeved to know he was even thinking that.

best to let that particular subject line drop for the time being, lest he be heard across the boundaries of time and space. if anyone was capable of that, Ymir would be.]

Dunno! 's my first winter here, too.

[the glitter is nice, he notes while peeking over at Sora's progress, and he determines to use some when it frees up to enhance the festive flames of hell. in the meantime, he busies himself with drawing some super radical (and complex) horns on these Santa demons.]

But they've kinda had parties around the same time as holidays where I'm from, so...'m hoping so, anyway. Even if they don't, uh, think I still might give everybody something. Winter gets some people down, you know? Might be a nice pick-me-up.

[Sora easily moves onto the Christmas subject and even shifts his card so Styx can see his progress better too. It looks like Sora's adopted the edgy theme and has drawn a skeleton with a Santa hat on filled in with red glitter.]

That's great! You're right, Winter is always a rough time of year for everyone! I think I wanna get gifts for my friends too. It'll cheer them up, it's a good idea.

[And he's wondering how his bondmate will react who's never had a Christmas of his own before...]

I wonder how people who've never had Christmas before will react. Heh.

[hey, that was super cool! Styx pauses in his own coloring to lean in a bit, lips moving silently when he attempts to count all the bones in that little sketchy skeleton. seemed pretty close to accurate, as far as he could tell...killer.]

Probably be pretty exciting...uh, I'd think, if it were me. Be like having your first Christmas but you can kinda remember it.

[kind of? just what exactly were you anticipating happening during this yuletide season, Styx? although considering how high he was putting those festive flames of hell that might not be a question anyone wants answered...]

[They're gonna have the coolest most wicked Christmas cards ever. Sora is pretty pleased and grins brightly when Styx checks out his card with approval. Skeletons are cool!!]

Yeah! It'll be the first Christmas for my bondmate! I can't wait to see the look on his face when it happens.

[So maybe Sora should make him an extra special card.]

[skeletons are super cool. especially when they're doing stuff instead of just sitting around all sad, or so he thought.]

Like, first Christmas here or, uh, first Christmas ever?

[it's a very stupid question, Styx already knows, but he's an idiot so there isn't much to lose here. and the way Sora had phrased that...he had to wonder.]

Yeah! His first Christmas ever!

[Just like he said! It's actually kind of sad to hear. To have the first Christmas so later in life...]

He didn't have a great childhood so he never got to see things like Christmas trees or learn about Santa, you know? I wonder if I can do something to make it extra special for him.

[dude. dude. there was nothing sad about that, it was awesome! getting to experience Christmas so late in life meant that you were absolutely guaranteed to remember each and every magical first. Styx was almost jealous of such a fantastic opportunity, but his heart was simply too big for such selfish emotions.]

You think you could get Santa to stop by and meet him? Be pretty cool to give your list to the big guy personally.

[the drummer didn't exactly believe in Santa himself...per se. he knew that at home such a thing was fictitious, but even there he'd always thought that it would be awfully nice if somehow it could be true - despite knowing it very clearly wasn't. here in this world, however, there was magic exploding from every corner.

it wouldn't be so out of the realm of possibility for Santa Claus to exist here, would it?]

[As fictitious as Santa clause is to most people Sora seems to perk up with quite the lightbulb in his eyes when Styx mentions Santa Claus. He brightens with a smile and practically bounces in a very rabbit-like way on the spot.]

Whoa, that would be an awesome idea! I hope Santa Claus comes out all this way! I really wanna do that for him!

[For a seventeen almost eighteen-year-old Sora sure is excited for Santa Claus... Maybe because in Sora's realm he's real! Very real!]

[an awesome idea? normally the concept of Styx having produced a suggestion so full of merit would be alien, but he's more than capable of making an exception considering the subject matter of this one. it's Santa Claus. of course it would be fucking awesome to meet the dude in a world he turned out to be real.

and, judging by Sora's reaction, that was indeed apparently the case here? god, that was so sick as hell.]

Well he's gotta, right? Doesn't just pick one spot in the world 'nd keep all the presents there!

[and as far as he could tell Geardagas was a hell of a lot smaller than planet earth...so it should be more than fine. the drummer's definitely getting way too into this idea now.]

But if you wanna be sure, maybe you should write him a letter? Uh, you know, so you can fill him in on it being your buddy's first time 'nd all.

[Sora grins with some knowing delight. Writing a letter to Santa isn't something he's done since he was a little kid.]

I hope he'll get my letter if I send it out from his world. It's been a while since I've done that!

[And he has no idea where this world is in regards to Santa's world. Will Santa be able to find it? He sure hopes so!]

I think I'll add in that he should send a lot of gifts this way to the orphanage too. How does that sound?

[Gifts for the kids!!]

'Course he's gonna. He's magic 'nd this place is magic too, yeah? 's a perfect match.

[you just needed to have faith that both of those magics stemmed from the same place...which, simple as Styx is, poses no issue whatsoever. when Sora makes mention of the children receiving some special presents too the big guy can't help but grin, turning his attention over to the small kiddos still embellishing his pant leg.]

Hey, what do you guys think about that? Wanna see Santa swing by and say hi?

[these kids have almost definitely never heard of Santa Claus in their lives. but they understand 'person who gives free stuff' perfectly well and all summarily cheer at Styx's question.]

[Free stuff and cool things is all the kids really need to hear! They start to hoot and hollar in excitement and it makes Sora grin.]

You guys gotta be extra good and do all your work and chores so that he'll come and give you presents, okay?!

[Some coo and complain but most of them seem excited!]

Heh, anyway! Thanks again for the help today, Styx! Looks like the kids are happy they get both of us today. Let's work together more often!
