Who: Sieg, Viren
When: July, night
Where: Aefenglom streets
What: Quest #4: Suspicious Activity
Warnings: None
[It's not as though Sieg's had much experience with most things, but looking for danger in the dark is something he's done more than once. That's just the life of somebody who gets involved in the Holy Grail War, Master or Servant, these things are just givens.
So it seems like a good idea to him to sign up for one of the quests. Looking for people accosting others is at least a step up from looking for a murderer on the run. Consider the job he just took on it makes sense that they'd pair people together, for the simple reason of safety.
Sieg gives Viren a short bow.]
My name is Sieg. I hope we can work together well.

his claws drum against its head, apprising this individual. he doesn't recognize this 'sieg.' that is to say, he doesn't have a headcount of everyone in aefenglom, never has, but it does have him wondering: a newcomer, perhaps? ]
That depends.
[ he begins, in a forthright reply. ]
Are you a Monster, or a Witch?
no subject
The answer doesn't seem to phase him. At least he got an answer, instead of getting snubbed.]
I'm a Witch.
[Though, considering his nature, he thinks could've manifested either way. Magic is familiar enough to him, even if he hasn't gotten that many spells down.]
no subject
Better.
[ a tip of his head. ]
And... how practiced are you...?
no subject
This world's magic is still new to me. [And breaking things apart comes much easier to him than anything else. He doesn't sound frustrated, just accepting that he'll have to learn.]
no subject
—Then you at least, presumably, have a liking for it. That's a start.
[ he could be like his silly son! averse to using the gifts so graciously bestowed upon him by whatever higher beings of this worse. wasteful, and adament in refusing to realize what could be his full potential. ]
But, fine. Don't hold me back. [ accompanied by a tone that matches his bitter thoughts. viren moves past the witch. ] Let's begin at the Residential District.
no subject
[Which does not ping him as a weird thing to say, as he immediately moves on. The tone Viren takes is... honestly fair in Sieg's mind. It would probably best to be supported with somebody who was far more practiced in the magical arts than a newbie.
Sieg gives a nod as he starts walking alongside Viren, keeping up.]
no subject
until sieg's words reach his ears, that is: ]
Made for it—? [ he'd given sieg a sharp look. ] Explain.
[ there's a "please" there, somewhere. ]
no subject
Being asked to explain is normal enough that it doesn't take him long to answer. The rudeness doesn't phase him in the slightest.]
I was created to generate mana, or magical energy.
[Like a very human shaped battery.]
no subject
[ the response receives a scrunching of his eyebrows. ]
Acting as a wellspring of magic differs from actively practicing it. [ he notes, dubiousness entering into his tone. his eyes narrow. ] Or did you do both?
no subject
Both. The majority of what I did back then was transformation.
[Not that what he was doing was technically a spell.]
no subject
Transforming...? Who? Into what?
no subject
Since he isn't fussed about that, he gives a honest enough answer.]
I transformed myself into a- [He could say heroic spirit, or he could say dragon. Since they are where they are, and Viren is what he is-] -dragon. [That requires far less explanation.]
no subject
A dragon.
[ his tail flicks, wings tightening in their fold upon his back. ]
Why? Are they, in your world, also among the most powerful of creatures?
no subject
I needed the ability to fly far away and hm... I was already connected to them at that point.
As for most powerful... Maybe? [A pause, like he's trying to remember something specific.] There are plenty of legends about dragon slayers, and that part of their story is always remembered.
no subject
Yes... Their slayers do tend to be remembered, don't they? It's always regarded as a significant achievement, warranting cause for momentous celebration.
[ his lips twitch, as if it should threaten into the slightest of smiles, but ultimately his expression remains more ponderous. ]
And, despite all that, you should become a Witch... How fascinating.
no subject
That's usually the case with European myths. Plenty of dragons that menace the local population until a hero slays it. They're more benevolent in the Eastern myths.
[Didn't somebody marry a dragon?
His hand is still lightly resting on his sword as he glances around for anybody suspicious.]
I'm not sure how this world decides between Witch or Monster.
no subject
And you wouldn't be alone in that uncertainty. It's ripe for speculation, being one of the many mysteries of this world — awaiting to be unraveled. I've heard others guess at it: should another from their world be brought here, what sort of Monster that individual might be made into.
[ he doesn't like it, actually, the lack of weight its evidently afforded. it's like guessing aimlessly, frivolously, at someone's horoscope. his tone says as much, in a condescending sort of way. ]
But I doubt they could articulate why that person just wouldn't be made into a Witch.
no subject
He takes just a moment to wonder. It's a good question with no real answers, but he's always been an odd case. Servant and Master, Dragon and Dragon Slayer. Inside of him there are two wolves, or however people want to put it these days.]
There's not much point in speculating is there? What happened is what happened. We just need to work with what we were assigned.
no subject
[ viren interjects, the quickness of the response perhaps conveying that he's offended by some notion that he's engaging in meaningless theorizing! that would be just terrible. his tail swishes through the air.
no matter which way someone might look at it, though, it's certainly idealistic; he would prickle if that were pointed out: ]
If we were to understand the mechanism by which it's determined... We may be one step closer to controlling it.
no subject
No matter what happens to Sieg his original designation as a homunculus remains. ]
You want to control the world?
[ He doesn't even sounds accusing, just curious. ]
no subject
Nu-o— Of course not.
[ not that that would be... a bad thing. hm. ]
[ he blinks, goes over that statement again, amends, ]
But perhaps... being able to affect change, even if that does have to be after someone has already been made a Monster or Wish.
no subject
Huh. [Said by somebody who hasn't really thought about changing his designation.] Would you want to do that? Switch to being a Witch?
no subject
[ in a way, viren knows that wishing so dearly to be a witch is at slight odds with the drive to "accept" himself as a monster. he's had this thought countless times, this same conversation dozens of times. but accepting something doesn't necessarily mean they're happy with it -- certainly not viren: ]
Yes! Very much so. [ he huffs, smoke exhaling with the breath. ] And you -- I'm guessing, would never?
no subject
I... don't know. Becoming a dragon was my choice, being a witch wasn't. It's not as though I hate what this place assigned to me. But sometimes I miss having wings.
[One day he'll be good enough at transformation magic to make them again.]
no subject
[ a simple acknowledgement, almost a scoff. viren mulls over the young man (dragon) again. as he's already come to terms with -- he does seem a marvel. ]
Then do you think you would detest it, should you have been made into a Monster without the gift of flight? [ conjecture, again, but he does seem genuinely interested in hearing the answer. ]
no subject
... I don't think so. I'd never have another chance to experience life as another species.
no subject
[ remarked with a little raise of his eyebrows. ]
For example, I may not have experienced my life as an insect — but I already know I likely wouldn't prefer it.
