[open] your ambiguous true face is hidden in the magic hour
Who: Momo and you!
When: Throughout Aguril
Where: Around and about...
What: Catch-all feat. Lunasa + Antler Fruit, Forget-Me-Nots, and Darkness and Frost quest things (plus some closed prompts)
Warnings: Potentially raunchy discussion in Lunasa and Antler Fruit prompts, and Violence (tm) in the Darkness and Frost prompt.
[a: don't do the fashion crime if you can't do the fashion time (lunasa)]
[While Momo isn't exactly dressed in a not-extra way when he's out and about during Lunasa, what with the pinstriped dress shirt and useless fashionable suspender aesthetic because why not, the fact that he has modelling as a more permanent side job here now means he has to get involved in Lunasa things one way or another. And as far as he's concerned, it's better to have a little fun with it than just get set up with a bunch of local models. He figures Yuki will only have the patience for a little of it, though the single red string trailing off Momo's finger (coincidentally, it's chosen to tie itself around the finger he wears his repeat ring on, the left middle) somewhere off into the abyss of the city may be a dead giveaway to some people that Momo's oft-mentioned partner isn't directly present.
As such, anyone who comes near the right modelling locations may find themselves being propositioned by more than just the locals, as Momo taps shoulders (or just takes arms in cases he knows someone well enough or they look relaxed enough that he can assume he won't get hit for it) and starts trying to guide people towards the hell of designers and glitter and flashiness.]
Have you tried out a little modelling yet? You'll get some cute clothes out of it, I promise! [Or just. Good useful clothes for if anything fancy happens. He may have to change his tactics with some people...]

[b: pursuing the elusive hornyfruit (antler fruit, 18+ characters only)]
[Considering Momo tends to favour trap tactics initially when fighting things out in the Wilde anyway, something that involves having to keep an animal still long enough to pluck fruit off its horns seems pretty ideal. And the pay is good, and the jury is very much out on how long Momo is going to hold out before he makes one or more horny puns. Maybe they should be offering extra hazard pay for that part.
As it stands, though, it's still out in the Wilde and that still means Momo is going to have to pick up interested parties to help him out in the collection process. Out of habit he'll favour adults, in large part because of the nature of the quest, but other than that he's not particularly picky as long as his company has some idea what they're doing. Most of his supplies are concealed under his very covering clothing since he'll be drawing on magic much more here, but on occasion he can be seen tapping at things under his clothes as if to make sure they're still in the right place.
On final approach, behind some trees from which clear sounds of the deers' presence can be heard and one or two of them even start to be visible in a clearing nearby, Momo finally cracks while peering out to check how many there are around.]
Wow, I guess they really are as horny as advertised. [In reference to the giant "branches" of antlers hanging with fruit that are visible even from here, but he's still grinning like he knows he just made the worst joke in the world and isn't at all sorry.]
--
[c: animal crossing cheat codes (forget-me-nots)]
[Another particularly handy aspect of having focused primarily on distraction and protection magic in his early months is that thorny plants aren't a huge concern. He covers up habitually when travelling to the Wilde anyway, because Cwyld is like that, but some of the plants here are remarkably good at getting through gloves and he doesn't really want to learn if these prickly bushes are like that the hard way. So he's gathering the seeds with a layer of pink around his hands - a shield to prevent giving himself dead arm for the duration - and a nostalgic sort of smile on his face, courtesy of the fumes. He's dropping his own seeds into vials similar to those used to collect plant samples with a bit of soil, and while he knows time is of the essence, he'll spare some for anyone else who comes collecting.]
Are you here for seeds? If you've got something to transport them in I can get you some real quick, might as well carry as many as we can.
[He was told about the time limit when he came out, but at worst he can leg it back to the city after he helps.]
--
[d: tattoo responsibly (darkness and frost)]
[With the amount of time Momo is spending in the Wilde and on the outskirts of the city this month, of course he hears the warnings about the screaming and the creatures. And initially he classes it as a general danger, something to be wary of but that he's not necessarily more at risk of than anyone else.
Unfortunately, he is as yet blissfully unaware of the creatures' targets of choice, and he happened to get an enchanted tattoo not at all long after he arrived in this world. And spends a solid chunk of time in Dorchacht for the open spaces.
Initially, it's just that the screams seem to come remarkably close a few of the times he's near the borders of the Outer City or in the Wilde - but in the case of the former he's generally in the company of the Wilders and others helping out beyond the walls. It's not until he ends up having to chase a Shade a little further out from locals that can muddle his scent than is entirely ideal that one of them bursts from the trees, giving off its eerie screaming. On the one hand, it spooks the smaller Shade enough for it to hightail it back into the deeper Wilde for the moment. On the other, it's much bigger and more vicious than what he was just dealing with, and Momo barely gets a shield up before it crashes into the pink dome, trying to stomp through it and screaming all the louder. It's rare to see Momo look legitimately afraid of something, but he definitely does for the first few moments of holding it out of the shield.]
What the fuck...? [The cuss slips out in his absence of care for pretense in this kind of situation, and while the flayed creature's screaming is probably attraction enough for help, he does call out to anyone who might've seen fit to follow him.] Stay back! And if you have any idea what this thing is I could use the update!
[Unless whoever came to assist fills the target criteria for the nuckelavee as well, it's likely to remain very obviously focused on trying to get through that barrier to stomp and/or chew on Momo. Otherwise...well, it's going to turn its attention to the target that doesn't have a shield in front of it.]

c is for codes, but also cheating
( he has a satchel, something small that can hold a few personal items, for when he flies long distances. it's because if he also has to carry a passenger, which has slowly become a norm for him, that lio can't be over encumbered by weight. )
Do you need my help to gather some more? I'm sure an extra pair of hands can't hurt.
( lio flashes a soft smile before reaching down toward those plants. )
no subject
Hang on, if you're gonna be an extra pair of hands then I need to cast a shield on them first! Otherwise a little bird told me you'll end up with dead arms.
[Momo flicks one of the thorny things growing above the flowers with the tip of his finger. It ricochets off the pink shield he has cast on his own hands, but it's definitely pretty pointy and Momo doesn't think dead arm or wing, however temporary, would be a fun time for Lio.]
no subject
Dead arms?
( ah. and now lio knows why. his entire right hand is now... he can't feel it and he purses his lips. )
Dammit.
no subject
This is why we don't keep moving when Momo-chan says not to... [He sighs, half faux put-upon and half just amused, before moving to take Lio's dead arm and check it to make sure the thorn didn't do anything too nasty. Since he can't exactly ask him to give it over.]
I hear it wears off after maybe an hour or two. Stuff like this can be difficult to heal because you kind of have to purge it out like a poison, so trying to do anything other than just close the pinprick here might risk the seeds going over their time limit. [If it didn't wear off he'd be taking it more seriously, but...well, the seeds are needed and Lio kind of made his bed by moving before he listened. He might be getting some teasing at his expense before the numbness wears off since it's not a serious situation.]
no subject
ah. well. that does it. )
Hey, maybe you should've been quicker on saying something? ( but honestly, he's not that irritated. it could be worse. what if it somehow got him on the throat? a wing? his chest? )
Purge it out like a poison... so you'd have to suck it out.
( he regrets saying those words as soon as he speaks them, and lio turns his head and clicks his tongue. at himself. )
no subject
Wow, what kind of saucy romance novel premise are you thinking about? I just meant I'd have to run more magic through you than it takes to heal a surface injury because poisons get into your blood. [He's heard on the regular that trying to suck poison out of bites doesn't work anyway, which is the other reason Lio bringing it up strikes him as questionable.]

lady in the lake take 1 - closed to elliot
This case, though, is...strange. And almost familiar, in a way. Enough to catch his attention, and enough that he certainly thinks having a healer party to anyone who goes out there to deal with the woman is a good idea, based on how Dorchacht's Coven describes the threat. So it's two reasons he ends up deciding to head out there, though he isn't entirely expecting the companion he ends up with on the way.
Still, Elliot obviously knows what he's doing, so Momo isn't worried about that part. He is, however, more curious about the nature of the job as they start to get nearer the lake.]
Has this kind of haunting happened before? On a scale this big, I mean. [Small-scale haunting is something he was used to even before coming here, but this seems like a lot for one spirit.]
no subject
Seeing Momo was also interested in the job, it only made sense to team up to Elliot. Momo proved capable last night in the underground city, so hopefully they can work together again.]
Mm. A few months ago, we found the ruins of a village that was very haunted. We managed to appease a lot of the ghosts by creating a memorial for them, but some were so wrathful they couldn't bring themselves to move on.
[Which was a tragedy all on its own]
I have a feeling this girl might be a cast of the latter.
no subject
But yeah, clawing at faces and that sort of thing? Sounds like a wrathful spirit. But I wonder how many people have come into it ready to fight, if they want the pearls so badly.
[He sounds a bit sad for her, honestly. Spiritual beliefs he's used to are mostly about respect, so he's in the habit of treating any spirit respectfully, including the potential one he and Yuki lived with for a good few years of his early adulthood.]
no subject
Good question...if that story of her is true, I can understand why she'd react so badly to people acting hostile towards her. [Killed by the one she loved...it's terrible] We should try talking to her first...maybe that'll have more luck.
no subject
[If she can harm people so easily, presumably she's on a different level to the ones in the town who were basically limited to flying through someone if they bothered them enough. This one strikes him as more of what he'd see in horror movies back home as a poltergeist, considering the violence involved.]
I wish I could say I couldn't imagine someone turning on someone they once loved like that, but even things people call love can come out in screwed-up ways. [Stalkers are one thing that comes to mind immediately, but Momo's old "friend" who basically tried to destroy everything around Momo to drive him back to his side, with a side of attempted murder, feels more suitably messed up for something like this even if it was just over friendship.]
no subject
[Because you never know with an encounter like this. Elliot wasn't bad in a fight, but he wasn't a front-line fighter by any means. And while he knows Momo used to play sports, that's not exactly the same as combat training
He does give a look over at Momo as he's talking, a little worried.]

When he sees a familiar face he doesn't run into often out here, though, it gives him pause. Because he could be out here for one thing, or he could be here for something else entirely and potentially something more dangerous.
Regardless, Momo gives a cheery grin and a wave when he sees the cultivator, no sign of worry about him.] Fancy meeting you here. This a work trip or a pleasure trip?
[If it's work, then he might just be hanging around a little longer than he was planning to. Or not doing the research he was planning to. Or both, honestly.]
no subject
He's only a little surprised to meet Momo on the job as well. He knows that Momo, being energetic and helpful would be out doing work much like a cultivator himself, but that doesn't guarantee that they would cross paths.]
It is work this time, Momo-gongzi. I heard that this lake might be haunted and came to investigate. Were you here to do the same?
[He might also just be out there coincidentally, but that seems less likely.]
no subject
["Might as well get the low-risk job out of the way and guaranteed first" is the kind of logic he would've used here anyway, so he just rolls with that as his excuse. Besides, it's not as if he could've done the lake one alone.]
That means we can head out together, right? It doesn't sound like anything anyone should be trying to get to the bottom of alone.
[The risk of attack is obvious, but Momo also doesn't really like the idea of Xichen potentially have to spill information someone else might take advantage of.]
a
[he's following along as Momo guides him, docile man that he is, but there's no mistaking the extreme misgivings Styx is feeling when they're plastered so obviously across his face. surely there must have been some sort of mistake?]
Is there really nobody else around? Don't really think anyone's gonna want me in their pictures...
[and, to be fair, it wasn't like his uncertainties were completely unfounded - nearly seven feet tall and almost as wide, but without any monster traits to justify it, he really did look more like a hooligan than anyone who ought to be allowed within ten miles of a wedding. 'fashion' clothes wouldn't suit him at all, he was already sure of that.]
no subject
I want to see you in pictures, so that counts, right? A good size difference makes for some great potential poses! [That said, he looks Styx's current outfit up and down, as if thoughtful.] I think I've got a designer I could introduce you to...what kind of stuff do you like to wear normally?
[Momo's extremely not against pulling someone out of their comfort zone, but at the same time, an idea of what someone usually wears can give a good insight into what they think suits them without having to actually test through a bunch of things.]
no subject
You do?
[he seems genuinely surprised by such a concept - and completely unaware that this man is probably just saying that in order to make his own job easier. the fact that it's accompanied by a reassuring sort of pat...hook, line, and sinker.]
Well, uh...just stuff like this, really. Got a couple with bands names on them at home.
['like this' being his original outfit from home of a plain black tee and jeans. Styx has been trying to purchase more clothes here, just as a matter of practicality, but finds himself returning time and again to the familiar. even the most 'casual' of outfits here just felt too fancy - too good - for him.
which is to say, this is someone with absolutely no self-confidence. please ignore his comfort zone.]
no subject
Is that a surprise? You're a pretty eye-catching guy... [And then he brightens, tilting his head a bit.] Well, I'll just have to try and get some confidence into you, then!
[He sounds almost like he's taking it on as a challenge, though the idea that it will be one is only compounded by the answer about the clothes.] What kinds of bands are you into? Do you like the sort of stuff they dress in?
[Momo has...extremely eclectic music tastes, so he may well have an impression enough of the kinds of fashions associated with a certain genre to at least have a jumping off point.]
no subject
[typically he's 'eye-catching' in the negative sense. the way that Momo seems to pause after hearing his answer, however brief, makes the big guy suspect that he's given the wrong one - and so he decides that it would be rude to argue after the man's declaration of boosting his confidence. he's just exactly as much self-esteem as he deserves, in his opinion! but people do tend to know better than him, so...
a great deal of that hesitance disappears - or is put to the side for the time being, at the very least - when the other man inquires further into his taste in music. the subject is such a comforting one, no matter the context, that it never fails to brighten his disposition up right away.]
Uh, mostly metal! Hard rock's good too, though - anything big and loud's pretty killer to me, you know?
[fast and aggressive, with powerful lyrics...he lived for it.]
Usually got corpse paint on when I'm playing, so...yeah, really like the stuff they've got on most of the time, haha!

Yeah, yeah, drop 'em in here.

Close encounter with the thorns? Maybe Momo-chan should've done a sweep over everyone with these. [He wiggles his pink-tinted, shielded fingers. It's a finicky spell to get a barrier as flush to the skin as that, but it's been very handy for this.] I wish I could heal it, but it wears off so quickly and healing anything in the blood is so picky that it'd probably take about the same amount of time in the end.
[He bends down to start gathering some more seeds. The thorns brush against the shields he's using, but bend back without penetrating the surface.]

[ he's so mad. he's so mad! he should've known better. but lance can at least do this and collect all the seeds. he watches as momo's magic prevents him from also not being able to use his limbs, and he's a little salty, but eh. if it wears off quickly then it's no big deal. ]
I'll just wait it out, then, psh, no big deal! Just, you know, gonna be a little unhelpful for a few minutes.
no subject
Flushing stuff out of someone with magic just takes a bit, so we'd both be sitting around for almost that long if I tried that! And I don't want to tempt any Shades in the area.
[The last thing they need is a Shade showing up while there's someone with a dead arm.]
no subject
[ YIKES. that's longer than he was expecting. lance groans, again, and slumps a bit. this is so troublesome. ]
I guess I'll, uh, be on Shade duty? Keep watch to make sure nothing's coming after us and all.
