[ Judging from his tense body language, he absolutely doesn't need to be told twice, and getting the confirmation that the area smells suspect only serves to rachet that tension up. According to the coven, the lizard was probably the size of a Labrador, but the forest has more than lizards living in it.
As they follow the trail, they get to a point where it bifurcates down two separate paths, both leading into different sections of forest. Keith gives Scathach a look.]
You think its trying to split us up?
[ Or is that paranoid? Not like the coven had said the lizard was an animal with predatory instincts like divide and conquer. ]

[ She'd read the reports on the beast. She knew well its propensity towards that sort of thing. But she also had faith in herself, in Keith, in their ability to handle themselves should they end up parted.
What's more, she had a plan for that, reaching in her satchel to pull out something, a strange silver-looking herb, but one that didn't harm her to touch, passing it towards him. ]
This is Whisper Grass. We'll split up, and if we find something, we use these to talk to one another, instead of our watches. Their signal travels across natural ether, and will be stronger in these woods.

Alright. We'll mark the bark on the trees as we go so there's a clear trail to follow if we have to meet back up in a pinch.
[ He gives Scathach a nod, tucking his grass securely away. ]
I'll take the left fork. If I spot anything I'll let you know immediately.
[ A beat. ]
Remind me again, did the Coven want the lizard brought back dead or alive?
[ Because one of those things is gonna be waaaaay easier than the other if this thing turns out to be hostile. ]

[ If it was truly formerly extinct, there was reason to want to see it preserved... for now, at least. Which weighed in how her gaze shifted, turning back towards him. ]
But if it's you or the creature, you know what choice to make. I'll be doing the same.
Let's be off. [ She turns on heel to begin heading down the right, spear no longer at rest but held in ready... ]

[ He gives her a nod then heads down the other fork. Despite the question, it isn't as though he wants to kill a magical creature unless it puts him in a bad situation. Though, frankly, since turning into a full vampire, the list of things that can actually kill him has gotten rather specific.
He marks the tree bark as he heads down the path, listening carefully for any movement as he goes along. He walks for a little while, pausing when he spots a glimpse of something pink ahead. Frowning, he keeps his voice low. ]
Shadow, is that you up ahead?

The figure turns, but not at the sound of his voice... If it was Scathach, she was scanning for something, as if she'd been pursuing their target, and had lost sight of it... ]

Ducking to keep himself hidden from sight behind a tree, he tries the whisper grass again. ]
Shadow. Are you okay?
no subject
Stay calm.
[ She was beside him, having moved within the darkness of the tree line, kept low and deeply quiet. Or at least that's what it seemed like? She hadn't been there a moment ago, to be sure, but there was also still someone who looked exactly like her still in the path, still looking... a canine ear shooting up and pointing towards them, even.
But neither had used the grass. ]
