[A: wilde quest #1: outside of the city]
[Zack has been outside of the city walls several times now finding he’s better off when he’s doing something active and keeping himself busy outside of the hustle and bustle of magical-city life. Out in the Wilde, he can feel the heaviness in the air that the Cwyld brings due to his new sensitive senses. Having heightened hearing and smell has its uses being a part-wolf chimera.
He’s stationed at one of the smaller temporary camps outside of the city's Bright Wall where a group of infected people are trying to seek medical attention from Cwyld infected wounds. It seems some sort of creature has run amok in this area and left people injured or even killed in its wake.]
Any idea what the creature looked like when it came through?
[Some of the injured mumble and whine and only turn away from Zack and his questions. They look sickly with black patches of Cwyld scoring their skin. He frowns and runs a hand through his hair and over his ram-like horns in exasperation. He needs to find out some more information about what has happened here so he can help.]
The faster we find the issue and kill it, the better.
[B: wilde quest #3: supply runs]
[The job is travelling through the Wilde and to Smugha Cave to transport supplies and provisions to the Smugha Cave Reclamation Group. In his hand, he has three scrolled spells (minor healing, icicle, and paralysis) but being a monster he really has no clue how to use these temporary spells and will more than likely rely on his own strength and wits to get the supplies through the darkened cave.
They are encouraged to travel the caves in pairs and Zack is more than happy to work with someone in order to not only have someone watching his back but to talk with on the trip. The cavern is old and downtrodden and he hopes there aren’t any rockslides or sinkholes inside.]
So, we’re working together to move these goods to the group working inside?
[He greets whoever is going with him on this trip (maybe it's you?) with a smile and a friendly wave. Don’t mind the claws, wolf-tail and ram horns he has. Zack is a chimera and he looks strong to boot. Any creatures or shades they run into should be easy work for Zack. In theory.]
[C: a bird of a different feather]
[Somewhere in the early morning around the cottages area of the residential district Zack is minding is own business and going for an early morning run to the markets. It’s chilly for a morning in what is supposed to be summer. The weather has been fairly cold for this apparent time of year.
He turns the corner and suddenly lets out a painful yell as a sharp pain runs up his spine. He nearly stumbles and grabs onto a nearby fence post as this sudden pain rockets up his back and through his shoulders. It feels like hot shears are cutting into his bones.]
Aaaaughghhhh!!!
[He yells and drops to a knee which makes him drop the collection of food he has with him, apples and eggs toppling to the ground... Zack yells again as the pain become unbearable. Something is happening to his back and he’s not sure what. It feels like his bones are splitting from his shoulder blades so rapidly that he feels like he might pass out.
Just what he needs right now... More monster parts growing? This time out of his back? What is happening? He could use a hand.]
God... damn it!
[D: the sly seadog]
[Zack is fond of The Sly Seadog, a run-down tavern out in the harbour district. It reminds him of a lot of home or at least the run-down streets of the lower plates and slums in Midgar. Some of the best people and information can be found in places like these and the drinks are usually strong and great for the pain he occasionally feels in his head.
The chimera can be found in this tavern enjoying a drink and open to lively banter or meeting some new friendly faces. Zack looks fairly human aside from the monster traits he has gained such as the thick black ram horns on his head, the claws and wolf-tail...
And he seems to be growing wings now as well. A few sleek black and brown feathers litter the ground around the seat that Zack is sitting in. His wings are small now and obviously very new and look painful. Regardless of that Zack seems to be in a great mood. Why not get day-drunk to forget how much it sucks to have wings?!]
Hey, another round here!
[E: wildcard]
[got something else? throw it down!]

Hey, another round here!
[E: wildcard]
[got something else? throw it down!]

[Zack laughs warmly as he watches the light materialize into the shape of a cat. How useful! Witches have all the cool tricks.]
I've never been that great at fishing. Too much energy I guess? [His mother used to say he had too much energy, that he can't sit still long enough and he scares all the fish away.] You do a lot of fishing back home?
no subject
[ The cat meowed silently, then jumped up on top of the back of one of the horses. ]
Sure. Great way to kill time. I used to go fish off the pier back home, and even when I moved down to Osaka... well, there were a couple of spots right off the river.
But it does take some patience. What's more your speed?
no subject
[Delivery?? Fast food?? Yeah. He's not a hunter either.
But as they chatter the horse without the magic cat on his back suddenly knickers nervously and stops trotting. It causes the cart to stutter and creak and Zack puts a hand out to steady it.]
Something's near.
[Wolf senses are useful that he can smell strange things. He doesn't have night-sight yet but he can smell something near. It's magic or ... dark. Like dirt that's been soiled.]
no subject
[ Welcome to being from the 80s.
He stiffened as a bloodcurdling scream came up from the darkness ahead. At first, it sounded to him like a woman's scream -- god knew he'd heard enough of those. But there was something animalistic to the end of it, a roughness that came from a throat that was not quite human.
A dark form leapt out from the shadows, headed right for one of those nervous horses...! ]
no subject
[Zack ducks out of the way but as that shadow leaps for the horse he is immediately on the run after it. He growls as his wolf sense sharpen and the hair on the back of his neck raise.]
I'll have to tell you later!
[The shade appears like a ghost, shrieking and wailing as it flies over the cart and the horses. The horses jerk and try to bolt which causes the cart to start toppling. Zack jumps up and swipes a powerful claw at the dark-like figure and it sweeps upwards away from them with a sneer.]
no subject
It'll be after us now, not them! How you doin' over there, Zack?
[ Another shade dropped in from behind them, probably in silent ambush from some narrow crevice they'd overlooked. Okay. All right. Cutting off their retreat: not great, but still doable.
He drew his knife and raised it, allowing the brightness of the flames that ran along its blade to illuminate the immediate area. The second shade snarled in response. ]
no subject
[While shades seem like they're made of smoke or something similar it is clear they do have form. His claws rip into something solid enough to tear and the shade shrieks loudly for it.
The dampening spell works wonders too.
Zack lands and glances over his shoulder as their exit point is closed. He snarls and his tail swishes angrily. He can smell the stink of dark magic and cwyld.]
Looks like we're going to have to fight our way through. It's never easy, is it.
no subject
[ Although... perhaps not immediately, as a blast lit up one of the shades, resulting in a gout of flame and a high-pitched screech as the spell hit home. It seemed Majima's specialty was not, say, divination.
The horses (and a good thing, too) seemed used to the sight of fighting, but pawed nervously at the earth. If at all possible, he'd try to end things quickly, so as to avoid having them bolt in fear. They were brave, but surely animals didn't have a limitless reservoir of courage. ]
I bet they've gotten used to the carts back and forth. Figured out they can be attacked.
no subject
[Best to try and keep the nasties away from the nervous horses. The last thing they want is for them to get so spooked they do actually bolt off and risk the supplies.
He is very glad he has a witch on his side today. Their magic smells strong and Majima's is effective is stunning the creature enough that it staggers to the ground. Zack leaps forward and grabs it like a sack of flesh, his claws digging deep into blackened-something as he rips. Black cwyld spatters up and it screeches again. It swipes at Zack's torso which makes him drop the creature to dodge to the right. But he does get clipped.]
Finish it off with something that hurts, man!
no subject
[ He made use of the power welling up inside of him, catching the shade in a spell that started at its core and spread out in a ripple of ice. The creature sank to the ground like a lead weight, shivering itself apart from the impact. ]
That thing get ya?
[ Said like a man hoping that Zack was merely grazed, because... lbr, Majima's healing magic wasn't super great. ]
no subject
Just a bit. It doesn't really hurt that much.
[Right now? He's not sure how bad a gash like this will be the longer he leaves it. He sighs and turns back to the horses.]
I think if we can get to the camp quick they'll be able to patch me up there.
no subject
Well, I ain't an expert on healin', but I can at least get that residue off ya. Here, hold still a bit.
[ A moment. ]
Ya might also want to close your eyes.
no subject
[Zack sighs and closes his eyes.]
no subject
C'mon, man. I wouldn't be that cruel. Well, not unless ya asked me, anyhow.
[ It was a kind of silvery light that suffused Zack, separating the dark residue from the rest of him. It seemed almost like filtered moonlight, only considerably brighter. ]
Whattaya say we get these supplies where they're going?
no subject
Hey, not bad.
[With that he stands straight and gets the cart back in order with a quick check to the horses.]
Looks like we're good to go. We shouldn't be too far off now.
[And off they go.]
