[A: wilde quest #1: outside of the city]
[Zack has been outside of the city walls several times now finding he’s better off when he’s doing something active and keeping himself busy outside of the hustle and bustle of magical-city life. Out in the Wilde, he can feel the heaviness in the air that the Cwyld brings due to his new sensitive senses. Having heightened hearing and smell has its uses being a part-wolf chimera.
He’s stationed at one of the smaller temporary camps outside of the city's Bright Wall where a group of infected people are trying to seek medical attention from Cwyld infected wounds. It seems some sort of creature has run amok in this area and left people injured or even killed in its wake.]
Any idea what the creature looked like when it came through?
[Some of the injured mumble and whine and only turn away from Zack and his questions. They look sickly with black patches of Cwyld scoring their skin. He frowns and runs a hand through his hair and over his ram-like horns in exasperation. He needs to find out some more information about what has happened here so he can help.]
The faster we find the issue and kill it, the better.
[B: wilde quest #3: supply runs]
[The job is travelling through the Wilde and to Smugha Cave to transport supplies and provisions to the Smugha Cave Reclamation Group. In his hand, he has three scrolled spells (minor healing, icicle, and paralysis) but being a monster he really has no clue how to use these temporary spells and will more than likely rely on his own strength and wits to get the supplies through the darkened cave.
They are encouraged to travel the caves in pairs and Zack is more than happy to work with someone in order to not only have someone watching his back but to talk with on the trip. The cavern is old and downtrodden and he hopes there aren’t any rockslides or sinkholes inside.]
So, we’re working together to move these goods to the group working inside?
[He greets whoever is going with him on this trip (maybe it's you?) with a smile and a friendly wave. Don’t mind the claws, wolf-tail and ram horns he has. Zack is a chimera and he looks strong to boot. Any creatures or shades they run into should be easy work for Zack. In theory.]
[C: a bird of a different feather]
[Somewhere in the early morning around the cottages area of the residential district Zack is minding is own business and going for an early morning run to the markets. It’s chilly for a morning in what is supposed to be summer. The weather has been fairly cold for this apparent time of year.
He turns the corner and suddenly lets out a painful yell as a sharp pain runs up his spine. He nearly stumbles and grabs onto a nearby fence post as this sudden pain rockets up his back and through his shoulders. It feels like hot shears are cutting into his bones.]
Aaaaughghhhh!!!
[He yells and drops to a knee which makes him drop the collection of food he has with him, apples and eggs toppling to the ground... Zack yells again as the pain become unbearable. Something is happening to his back and he’s not sure what. It feels like his bones are splitting from his shoulder blades so rapidly that he feels like he might pass out.
Just what he needs right now... More monster parts growing? This time out of his back? What is happening? He could use a hand.]
God... damn it!
[D: the sly seadog]
[Zack is fond of The Sly Seadog, a run-down tavern out in the harbour district. It reminds him of a lot of home or at least the run-down streets of the lower plates and slums in Midgar. Some of the best people and information can be found in places like these and the drinks are usually strong and great for the pain he occasionally feels in his head.
The chimera can be found in this tavern enjoying a drink and open to lively banter or meeting some new friendly faces. Zack looks fairly human aside from the monster traits he has gained such as the thick black ram horns on his head, the claws and wolf-tail...
And he seems to be growing wings now as well. A few sleek black and brown feathers litter the ground around the seat that Zack is sitting in. His wings are small now and obviously very new and look painful. Regardless of that Zack seems to be in a great mood. Why not get day-drunk to forget how much it sucks to have wings?!]
Hey, another round here!
[E: wildcard]

[Basically space cthulus.]
Our friend Jace tricked them into this place that could hold them for a time, and then Nissa and I hit them. She fed me all the magic she could draw from the plane, and I turned them into ash.
It was our first real job as the Gatewatch.

[He's lucky to have her on his side. Killing alien space gods on the first day as a rookie, Zack is extremely impressed. He laughs with that pride.
But-- Zack suddenly stops and gets quiet. He sniffs the air and something stings his nose with the stench of black magic.]
Hold up. Something's close.
[There's a cloud of dark smoke pooling near the bases of the trees just up ahead...]
no subject
[She freezes, settling into a more wary, mobile stance. If she needs to make a break for it, she will.]
...Think that's our guy, yeah?
no subject
[As they speak the black smoke gets thicker and a looming shadow starts to form just ahead. It coils up into a languid form of darkness with sharp yellow like orbs staring at them from inside.
... Cwyld. It's cwyld.
Zack wishes he could hold a weapon properly but it might not matter against smoke.]
Just like usual, I'll keep its attention and you set off explosions.
[And off he goes to take this bastard head on. It shrieks and Zack leaps for it.]
no subject
[And just like that, Zack is off like a bullet. Well, that wasn't unexpected...but geez, slow down boy.
Her focus initially isn't on making shit explode though, it's on giving him help. She kneels down, quickly tracing a circle in the dirt and slamming her magic against it.
Moments later, the ground rumbles behind the smoke monster, and a golem takes shape out o the stones. Glowing like sullen coals, it lurches forward and takes a swipe at the smoky apparition, the heat of it biting in hard and forcing the monster to divert some force away from Zack. Good chance to strike now!]
no subject
Come on! Let's go, you smoking pile of shit!
[That magic golem is very handy! As it forms and strikes the smoke it actually seems to hit something because the creature shrieks loudly. Splatters of black liquid splash out on the ground and blackness flourishes upwards.
Zack uses the distraction to immediately leap up and strike as well. He feels his claws rip through something that feels like the consistency of clay. It shrieks again, vine-like appendages going to counter at Zack which he dodges as he lands with a roll. The creature follows Zack with those lashing vines.]
no subject
If you guys can weaken it I'm pretty sure I can blow it to hell!
[But right now, it's him and the golem because if she starts throwing magic around she might hit him. And then where would they be? Crispy fried partner is terrible.]
no subject
[He's busy running and dodging and jumping through sweeps of black vine-like whips when he suddenly leaps up into the air and aims for landing right ontop of the cloudy creature.
That's not really any better for her aim. But-- Zack lands and he suddenly digs his claw right into the creature, sharp nails slicing through whatever this thing is made of like fabric. It suddenly squeals and Zack grips it tightly. And pulls.
A spurt of blackness comes bursting forth like Zack just pulled a plug to a bloody artery. He then backflips off and away from the of the creature as it collapses down in a bleeding heap.
Is that enough of a standstill target?]

Chandra doesn't waste the opportunity. She immediately launches a torrent of fire at the thing. A cascade of tiny fireballs glowing with the intensity of a miniature sun flies from her fingers and peppers the thing.
And then, start popping. One by one, exploding in small detonations that spray more shadow ichor everywhere.
It's probably vile.]
no subject
Hah! Nailed it.
[One (1) steaming pile of black goop and very dead creature later. Zack stands straight and wipes some gunk from his brow.]
That was easier than I thought it'd be.
[Or maybe Zack and Chandra are just that devastating of a duo.]
no subject
[If this thing is playing possum, Chandra's taking no chances.
She stabs a hand down, then reaches up, fingers forming a claw and the earth itself rises up around the goop and swallows it whole, drawing it in deep.]
A little earthcraft to keep it from getting back up.
no subject
Zack lets out a breath and brushes some stray hair from his eyes.]
Better safe than sorry. It looks like this cwyld issue is worse than I thought it might be. But if we can manage it like this, things might improve.
no subject
Chandra jumps back from the grasping magic tendrils with a sneer.]
Yeah. Agreed. We just have to root out the sources and the carriers and eliminate them. 'Course, they've been trying for a while, probably.
no subject
[Zack rolls a shoulder. He could use a hot shower.]
When you say source all I'm picturing is some big bad fat pile of goop that's controlling all of the other pockets of cwyld.
[God he hopes he's not right. Damn imagination.]
no subject
[A bit of toxic love?]
no subject
God, say that ain't so.
[He gives her a grin and then waves a hand.]
Let's head back and wrap this up. Thanks for the magic, Chandra.
no subject
[With a last look at the patch of tilled earth left behind, she spins, and back they go!]
